The location of the town makes it possible to enjoy at first hand the beauty of unspoilt nature and the charm of Spanish rural life. A variety of possible trips include:
1.-Walk in the Alcornocales National Park: Photos below showing views of a beautiful walking route through th cork forest of the Alcornocales National Park.
2.- Route through the Lower Genal Villages:
Visit the traditonal white village of Gaucin, with its fantastic views of Gibraltar and North Africa. Drive to the "artist village" of Genalgaucil with works of art dotting its narrow streets. Finally stop at the Venta San Juan for lunch or tapas and paddle in the Genal river or swim in its natural pools.
3.- Other walking routes: Suggestions: "Las Buitreras" (secluded gorge of vultures), "La Casa de Piedra" (the house of stone) and "La Torre del Paso" (Moorish signalling tower)
4.- Visit to Ronda: See the famous gorge and "Puente Nuevo"; the Mondragon Palace and Moorish baths.
5.- Special Events: Between June and September the majority of towns and villages celebrate their "romeria" or pilgrimage - a party in the countryside in honour of the local patron saint with a mix of tradional music, food, drink and horse displays. Around the same time every town holds its "Feria" - a weekend of music, circus, fairground rides etc. If you are here at Easter the Holy Week (Semana Santa) processions are not to be missed.
